Não consigo instalar vmware server

Olá, após ter problemas com o wireless no ubuntu 9.10, instalei o 10.04 e funcionou.
Agora estou de novo tentando aprender a usar o linux.
Estou tentando instalar o VMware server, segui o manual do site  "VMware Server User's Guide" https://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/server_pubs.html
Mas deu erro, como ainda não sei trabalhar com o linux, não sei resolver. Podem ajudar? Algum tutorial? Estou quase indo instalar no windows mesmo, pois tenho urgência. Obrigado
