Problema com a resolução

Olá companheiros da LBA (Igreja Linuxista Brasileira)!

Estou tendo problemas com o Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. Primeiro estava udo bem, mas fui inventar de instalar o Beryl e, por preguiça de ler e fazer direitinho, fiz merd*. Deu um problema no xorg.conf, e por ser iniciante e não saber o que fazer, formatei o pc. Depois voltou ao normal, mas quando fui instalar o driver da minha placa de vídeo (Geforce FX 5200 128Mb) com o automatix2, a resolução ficou só 800x600 (antes era 1024x768). Sem saber o que fazer, desinstalei o driver. A resolução ficou 640x480. Reinstalei o drive: resolução 800x600....
Agora estou com o Kurumin instalado, mas quero voltar com o ubuntu o mais rápido possível.
Apesar de ter formatado o pc umas 2 vezes hoje, sempre que coloco o cd do Ubuntu a resolução fica 640x480 (rodando em live cd).
Alguém dá uma luz pra que o Ubuntu volte ao normal com o drive instalado e resolução 1024x768?

Porque sera que quando o pc esta tudo bem ninguem lembra de fazer backup??haha, se tu tiver com o ubuntu instalado posta o xorg pra gente ver e voce ja tentou o dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, t++

Eu notei que na inicialização do live-cd tem opções tipo F2...... tem uma que é resolução de vídeo se não me
engano, instalei o sistema novo neste final de semana, o sistema depois de instalado usa as configurações
dadas na hora de inicializar o live-cd, não sei se estou me fazendo entender, porém se você conseguir inicializar o live-cd na configuração que quer, o sistema vai usar elas por padrão.

Voltou a 1024x768!!!!
depois de usar o dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg umas 3 vezes xP usei o nvidia-xconfig e voltou ao normal =S

vai entender... xP
