Não consigo atualizar e instalar nada no 11.04

Entendi, e embora me parecesse simples, não me senti seguro em alterar. Por favor, não pense que estou explorando a boa vontade, mas poderia indicar no código abaixo qual linha eu realmente devo alterar. Sou iniciante...(desculpe pelo pedido)

Fiz exatamente o que o amigo acima instruiu e me apareceu esta mensagem.
"Um erro ocorreu, por favor, use o Genrenciador de Pacotes a partir do menu com clique direito ou apt-get em um terminal para ver o que está errado.
A mensagem do erro foi:'Erro: Abrindo o cache (E:Encountered a section with no Package: header E:Problem with Merge List /var/lib/apt/list/ br.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not parsed or opened.)'.Isso geralmente significa que os pacotes instalados possuem dependências não resolvidas."

Como posso resolver?

Novamente aqui, e já com uma boa.
Deu certo o que vc instruiu mesmo, e vi em outro tópico aqui mesmo do forúm como fazia o procedimento.
Tá tudo certinho, agora só tenho que dar um : "sudo apt-get update"
E feliz Ubuntu 11.04 Natty.
Aliás, gostei da distro.

Para resolver esse problema será necessária a exclusão do diretório de listas do apt (/var/lib/apt/lists)
remova-o: sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
atualize a lista de pacotes: sudo aptitude update
Pronto, já será possível fazer qualquer alteração no sistema usando do apt-get/aptitude.
Espero que também resolva o problema de vocês!

O "aptitude" não vem instalado no Ubuntu 10.10, que eu uso, e, pela mensagem que foi mostrada, também está fora da sua versão do Ubuntu.
Mas...isso se resolve, como a seguir:
-No terminal, digite (sem as aspas):
"sudo apt-get update"
"sudo apt-get install aptitude"
Pronto. Agora é seguir com as instruções para atualizar seu Ubuntu.

Estou dando meus primeiros passos no Linux e comecei com o Ubuntu 11.04. Tive este problema de atualização em pacotes. O gerenciador de pacotes nem abria e dava uma mensagem de erro. Esta dica do Warhead me salvou. Muito obrigado. Meu desafio agora é instalar o Chrome.

Muito obrigado. Depois de atualizar as listas consegui instalar facilmente o Chromium e o Wine pela Central de Programas. O Wine é maravilhoso, estava com o Windows XP em dual boot e ontem resolvi formatar a máquina e utilizar exclusivamente o Ubuntu, pois os programas que não tem um bom substituto no Linux consegui rodar com o Wine. Windows, acho que nunca mais. Abraços,

Galera instalei o ubuntu hoje e também não estava conseguindo atualizar os pacotes de atualização e nem instalar nenhumalgum , executei este comando
sudo apt-get install aptitude
e após isto tudo passou a funcionar, o gerenciar de atualizações do ubuntu  e a central de programas do ubuntu. Apenas para ficar registrado \
