Instalei o Docky, e ele trabalha quase sem problemas. Só que esta sempre a ir a baixo... Executei pela consola e reportou o seguinte erro:

Uma alternativa ao Docky...

Estou utilizando o Ubuntu 10.04 com uma dock bar chamada Avant Window Navigator

sudo apt-get install avant-window-navigator

funciona muito bem !!!

dê uma olhada também em cairo-dock.
alem de possuir vários temas ainda permite a personalização individual dos ícones.
há nos repositórios, ou seja pode ser instalado pelo synaptic.
