Problemas com Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG

Boas,
eu estou com um problema no meu portatil.
Eu tenho um Packard Bell MX65-004 e o problema é que a minha placa wireless que é: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG não funciona.
Quando utilizava a versão Ubuntu 7.10 a placa funciona bem ligava a qualquer rede e até o botão on/off trabalhava normalmente, neste momento instalei a versão Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid funciona tudo menos a placa wireless, ist é detecta as redes abertas e ou protegidas mas quando tento me conectar a elas nada..... se for aberta fica sempre a dizer: obtendo ip... ao fim de algum tempo diz que não conseguiu conectar há rede, se for protegida por WPA2 (que é o caso da minha), também não conecta ao fim de algum tempo há espera aparece sempre a caixa de dialogo para eu introduzir a palavra passe, faço isso mas torna a aparecer a mesma coisa e a palavra passe que introduzo não fica memorizada.

Não sei se isto tem algum problema ou se é da minha pouca experiência que tenho em linux.

Mais uma vez....
Eu voltei a formatar o computador, tudo de novo, mas o meu problema continua na mesma quando tento ligar a redes wireless não dá nada.... mas nada mesmo!!!!!
Continua tudo na mesma...


Como ainda sou novo nestas coisas ainda é tudo uma novidade para mim, venho por este meio agradecer pela ajuda que tive até agora para tentar resolver ou ter algumas indicações sobre a questão por mim colocada.
