Problemas com a placa de vídeo ao usar ubuntu

Instalei recentemente o ubuntu, até então usava o mandriva. Tenho um Philco modelo PHN 14118. Depois de instalado o ubuntu a configuração visual dele ficou muito grande e ele não abre outra opção de configuração de tela a não ser a 4:3. Além disso a certos programas que não consigo usar, fica todo distorcido. Não sei mas certo o que fazer.

Qual a placa de vídeo? Qual a versão do Ubuntu?
