Configuração de internet via-rádio no Ubuntu 9.04

Recentemente me interessei pelo Linux, sua apresentação é impressionante e a liberdade de escolha mais ainda. Estou desapontado pelo fato de que para quem acaba de chegar a informação que recebe é que o Linux vai reconhecer as placas de rede, impressoras, etc... de maneira automática. Estou tentando configurar minha internet e já entrei em vários tópicos do Fórum, mas com não intendo de informática, e um comando que sai fora do indicado me deixa perdido, tentei alguns links, mas em sua maioria são refentes as versões anteriores do Ubuntu e não deu certo. Para tentar resolver copiei o resultado do comando "lspci" que acredito serem as informações iniciais para configuração. Aos participantes do fórum mais experientes gostaria que me orientassem a este respeito.

Meu amigo, sua conexão é igual a minha, vamos lá pelo modo mais simples

1 - clicar com o botão direito do mouse sobre o ícone de conexão que fica na parte superior do monitor, lado esquerdo;
2 - selecionar a opção "editar conexões";
3 - selecionar na aba "com fio" a única opção que aparece, no caso deve ser "Auto eth0" e clicar em editar;
4 - na caixa que vai abrir clicar na aba "configurações ipv4" e selecionar o método manual;
5 - clicar em adicionar e entrar com os algarismos que compõem o: endereço (ip), máscara de rede e gateway. Não sei se é um bug da minha instalação, mas aqui em minha máquina após fazer isso eu clico com o cursor em um dos dois outras campos (endereço (ip), máscara de rede) e só assim o gateway é fixado;
6 - no campo servidores dns digitar os valores de dns primário e secundário, separados apenas por ponto e vírgula (Piscada, em seguida fazer a mesma loucura acima para fixar os valores, ou seja, clicar em outros campos.

Após esses procedimentos é só clicar em "aplicar" e sua conexão será estabelecida.

Muito obrigado pela orientação, você me provou a praticidade do Linux, minha conexão está estabelecida, ainda não consigo acessar a internet, mas acredito que seja porque no Windows eu tenho um discador da empresa que fornece o serviço de internet com loguim e senha, liguei no suporte e pedi orientação, eles disseram para digitar no terminal o comando "pppoeconf", mas o resultado é que ele não acha a placa, passei esta informação ao suporte e eles disseram que fora disso eles não poderiam me orientar. Pelo que entendi o Linux tem um programa para discagem de conexão que não sei qual é onde encontralo, talvez já esteja instalado mas não sei como ativar.

Caso saiba o nome do aplicativo (pacote) instale-o da seguinte forma:

Menu Sistema > Administração > Gerenciador de Pacotes Synaptic e lá você fará a pesquisa do pacote desejado para instalar.

Procura o pacote gnome-ppp (vê se o nome é esse mesmo, pois agora estou no SO do Mal e não tenho como validar).

Procurei o gnome-ppp no synaptic no ubuntu e não o encontrei, baixei o aplicativo no site indicado, quando tentei instalar ele pediu dependencias, tentei baixar mas não consegui. O que faço?

Posta aí sua sources.list para eu ver quais repositórios ela está acessando.
Use o comando:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Pega o conteúdo e cola aqui...
Quando chegar em casa vejo como está e te mando uma cópia da minha para você substituir, se for o caso.
Aproveita e joga aí o nome do aplicativo que você baixou para eu tentar a instalação em casa e te passo as dicas.

Digitei a linha de comando e saiu desta maneira:

Como não deu certo, entrei no adicionar/remover e digitei na pesquisa "ppp" e apareceram dois programas: o Kppp e o Kppplogview para instalar, só que ele dá uma mensagem de que não é possível devido a necessidade de hardware com caracteristicas especiais.
Outra dúvida que tenho é que no meu discador no Widows XP eu não tenho um número de telefone, só loguim e senha.

Abre sua sources.list com o comando que já foi indicado e cola o conteúdo que postei sobre o conteúdo da sua lista e salve.
Depois digite no terminal:

sudo apt-get update

E procure e instale o gnome-ppp com o comando:

sudo apt-get install gnome-ppp

Meu amigo, vamos lá...

1 - Fiz uma alteração no sources.list que postei acima (marcado em vermelho), peço que remova as linhas marcadas.

2 - Vou colar um texto (script) aqui e você deverá copiá-lo e colar em um documento em branco usando Aplicativos > Acessórios > Editor de Texto e salve com o nome que quiser.

# Mover o script para a zona onde se deve pôr os programas (arquivos binários) de programas de terceiros
sudo mv launchpad-update /usr/local/bin/ppakeys
# Informar ao Ubuntu que o script é um arquivo executável
chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/ppakeys
echo "APT::Update::Pre-Invoke { "if [ -x /usr/local/bin/ppakeys ]; then /usr/local/bin/ppakeys; fi"; };" >> /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/05ppa

Depois você vai na sua pasta /home, que é onde o arquivo deve ser salvo e dê um duplo clique nele.
Vai abrir uma caixa de diálogo e você deverá escolher a opção "Executar em terminal".

3 - Faça o mesmo procedimento para esse "script"

4 - Depois que esse script rodar você usa o comando:

sudo apt-get update

5 - Caso haja atualizações:

sudo apt-get upgrade

6 - Agora já pode procurar o pacote que deseja no Synaptic ou se preferir:

sudo apt-get install -f gnome-ppp
