NVDIA FX 5200 com Ubuntu 8.10

Salve galera.
Estou com problemas com minha FX5200 usando o ubuntu 8.10.
Ja removi do repo todos os pacotes restritos da nvidia e instalei manualmente o driver do propio site da nvidia.
Estou usando a versao 173.14.15 que é a versão BETA para o novo xorg desse ubuntu e editei la o xorf.conf para poder usar o modulo nvidia.
Pois bem, ae ele nao inicia o X, somene em low graphic.

Olá senhores, consegui resolver o o meu problema, que aparentemente é o mesmo de você. Estou no kubuntu 8.10 com a nvidia fx 5200 com o drive da nvida. Bom eu não sei o que houve com vcs, mas comigo, pro alguma razão o kernel que vinha primeiro na ordem dos boots era do 8.04, ou seja o s drivers que eu tinha eram para os kernels do 8.10 então não rolava mesmo. Não sei se o grub ordenou pela String (então 8.04 é menor que 8.10) ou se foi porque eu brinquei um pouco com o editor do grub que veio no kde4.  Mas pois bem eu fiz o seguinte:

Com kernel 2.6.27-7-generic sendo executado rodei:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

depois fui em sistema drivers de hardware e ele instalou a nvida pra mim na boa.

Caso isso não funcione eu havia instalado esse pacote: nvidia-glx-177 

Só lembrando que eu não tinha instalado nada direto da nvida, tinha me Fu*** em outro upgrade por causa disso então começei a usar os do repositórios.


Se isso não for o suficiente, perguntem que eu posso ajudar a ver qual é a diferença da minha instalação para a de vcs.

se alguem puder me ajudar... no meu caso os drives da nvidia estao instalados e ativados, só que no compiz algumas coisas funcionam e outras nao,,... por ex. ele roda o cubo mas só com duas areas de trabalho, ou seja nao existe cubo e sim uma folha frente e verso que roda.... o efeito gelatina nao funciona... e quando abro o writer do office e fecho a tela escurece, fica tudo deformado mt estranho... alguem ja conseguiu resolver isso??? poste ai a sua experiencia?? obridado@@

Se já tens ele instalado é só configurar:
Vai em general options em desktop size  e em horizontal virtual size, coloque 4.  Em relação a ficar preto a janela em alguns aplicativos isso também acontece comigo, mas desde a primeira versão.. Portanto acredito que seja alguma coisa relacionada a placa. Li uma vez que tinha um pequeno problema com driver nvidia, mas não sei se é verdade. Mas de qualquer forma, a janela volta ao normal certo? O compiz tem alguns problemas, além desse também as janelas piscam parecendo que estão dançando . Mas acredito que é irrelevante perto da quantidade de coisas que ele traz. É isso abraços!!

Olá amigos, continuo com o mesmo problema da fx 5200.
Não quiz fazer nenhum upgrade de kernel pensando que esse era o problema. Estou com o mesmo que vêm na instalação do Ubuntu.
Segui as dicas sitadas neste post do Viva o Linux http://vivaolinux.com.br/artigo/Placa-de-video-Nvidia-no-Ubuntu-Hardy
Desativei a área gráfica /etc/init.d/gdm stop
e dei permissão ao driver baixado no site da Nvidia o de nº 100 (já consegui intala-lo no Kurimim 7) e o 173.
Foi executado o passo a passo do instalador (Não sei se continuo fazendo certo) e da um erro referente ao kernel.

 Olá leobarros, não sei se você notou mais a versão que o tópico ajuda a resolver o erro é a 8.10 e a que você usa é a 8.04. Outra coisa, tive problemas instalando o driver assim... Acho que foi nessa versão do ubuntu. Mas de qualquer forma, eu li o tuto que você se baseou. E não sei se vc  ja tem a versão source do seu kernel, pois o driver compila o seu kernel, para isto precisa dos fontes... Ali não faz referência nenhuma a isto, então não custa tentar. Outra coisa o kurumin 7 é uma versão "velha", devido a esta, ser a ultima versão do kurumin, que parou de ser atualizada. Caso não consegua resolver o seu problema, tente usando os drivers do ubuntu. Pois acho que nessa versão esta maneira de instalar, já começa a não funcionar tão bem. Digo isto pois o que pra mim funcionou foi a instalação modo ubuntu. Bom é isto. Não sei se ajuda alguma coisa. Mas qualquer coisa poste. Abraços

Olá!!!
Luther creio que falta o source do kernel, pois o log e o erro que o driver me dar se refere ao kernel.
A minha versão é a 8.10 e o tutorial 8.04.
O driver vem instalado em modo low e não dá para jogar ou ter um bom rendimento gráfico
Só falta isso para ficar "redondo" o meu Ubuntu!
Agora me fala. Como deve baixar o source do kernel.
Tenho dois kernels na máquina (eu acho, me corrija se eu tiver errado), pois aparece no Grub o 2.26-7 e 2.26.7-9.
Claro que estou usando o 2.26.7-9 e então tenho que configurar o source mediante a essa versão.

Já experimentou instalar o Envy pra resolver isso? Basta digitar " sudo apt-get install envyng " no terminal e, depois de instalá-lo, vai no terminal de novo e digite " sudo envyng -t " e escolha Instalar Driver NVidia, escolha o driver "do meio" e manda brasa. Nunca tive problemas com essa ferramenta na instalação de drivers da NVidia ou ATI, mesmo com aquelas placas on board de chipset nvidia. E se vc usar o 8.04, use o EnvyNG-GTK, pois o Envy pro 8.10 é só em modo texto.

Eu já instalei o Evy e não tive muito sucesso.
O que ocorre com a minha placa é o seguinte:
Instalo o driver da placa e quando reinicio fica tudo em 640x480 já com efeito compiz e nvidia-config. Ao editar o xorg para colocar para exergar resoluções maiores como 1024x768 o Ubuntu diz que tenho que reformular o xorg. Toda vez é isso.
Já tirei todos os drivers da Nvidia pelo Synaptic.
Fiz como dizia o tutorial e o mesmo da o erro de kernel
Vou fazer isso ainda hoje 22/01/09 e posto o resultado

Com essse problema te sugiro duas coisas:

1) tente setar a resolução no nvidia settings. SE não funcionar tente o 2 :p:

2)Em uma máquina do trampo eu compiei umas linhas do meu xorg para o xorg da máquina com problema.   Apesar de você ja ter tentado alterar na mão, talvez a configuração do meu xorg sirva. Ai vai:

Oi,

 Eu também tenho uma placa desta e sempre tive problemas de configuração.

  Para resolver eu fazia pela linha de comando:

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg --phigh

 Após este comando era só reiniciar o X (Crtl+Alt+Backspace).
