Empaquei aqui no seguinte problema:
Uso o notebook para assistir filmes ligando-o diretamente à entrada da TV LCD mas só posso fazer isso usando o Windows 7, pois o Ubuntu 10.10 não consegue mostrar as imagens adequadamente. A tela fica toda em tons de verde, como se um dos canais estivesse falhando. Pesquisando imaginei que podia ser uma questão de ajuste do gamma e tentei mudar os valores com o xrandr -- gamma mas fazer isso por tentativa e erro mostrou-se impossível. Utilizando o MonInfo no Windows eu peguei os valores de gamma usados pelo sistema mas parece que são duas coisas diferentes: enquanto o xrandr -gamma pede como parâmetros os valores para correção de cada cor (R, G e B) o MonInfo mostra uma tabela com sete valores (um valor geral do gamma e dois valores (x e y) para cada cor. Não sei se há relação entre as duas informações ou se com uma posso calcular a outra...
