Sound Blaster X-FI? SEM SOLUÇÃO!

Não tenho som nenhum no meu Dapper. Acho que não reconhece a placa de som - Sound Blaster X-FI.
Eu sou um leigo em informática. Já li vários tópicos mas ainda não descobri nenhuma solução. Desde que mudei para o UBUNTU (há mais de um ano) que tenho tido sucessivos problemas com o som (do 5.04 ao 6.06). É uma pena... mas estamos quase lá (no estado SOlido!)
Alguém me pode ajudar (ou dar uma dica onde me dirigir?)

Infelizmente, descobri que não tem solução:

Sorry xBopx but there is NO support for the Creative X-Fi in Linux - i.e. whatever you try you will not get sound in Ubuntu using this card. Use your onboard sound instead if you can

Creative are unwilling to release technical details about the new chip which means that the guys over in ALSA development can't even start on writing drivers... and there is no eta i.e. support will be sometime, maybe never (knowing Creative)

Update: Creative have said they will make *closed* source driver available in quarter two..... 2007!!

Well now I know that I'm selling my X-Fi, getting something that is supported under linux and never buying another Creative product again - they can go scr*w themselves - way to alienate potential customers Creative - a**holes!

É por isto que devemos sempre certificar-nos se o fabricante dá suporte Linux ao produto! E a Creative é uma das mais relutantes em fazer isso.
Talvez se perdesse clientes,reconhecesse que também somos gente e que temos direito a comprar produtos que funcionem em Linux.
