Na boa, pessoal... software livre não é fácil para newbie. Muita gente se apavora com o Terminal e os comandos. Tive problema parecido com resolução 1440x900 com placa da Nvidia (8500 GT). Solucionei fazendo uma " gambiarra". Instalei o Mandriva (que reconheceu na hora a configuração), copiei o conteúdo do arquivo xorg.conf e repus no xorg.conf do Ubuntu. Funcionou.

Não precisava instalar pra copiar o xorg.conf...

Ola sphinx777, sera que ele desistiu mesmo? uma pena....pegar logo de cara uma placa SIS.....mas tem bastante documentação no forum e no Oraculo. Vi alguns relatos de companheiros que as novas placas da SIS estao ativando o compiz e esta funcionando bem, alguem confirma isso?

Olá, meu notebook antigo tinha a placa de vídeo Sis 671, e vídeo não era problema (já que não me importo com o Compiz e outros do gênero). Tente ser paciente, todos estão tentando te ajudar. É difícil se acostumar ao modo Linux de fazer as coisas, mas depois que você se acostuma você vê o quanto é melhor.

Gente, consegui fazer funcionar usando o software SISCTRL... ele tem uma opção de HINTS e consegui fazer funcionar como MergedFB.

Tenho um notebook CCE WM73C (lixão!! com essa placa de video SiS671) e um monitor LCD Samsung SyncMaster 940BW.

Pra tentar ajudar os amigos, vou colar aqui meu xorg.conf na íntegra.

Restaram apenas dois problemas que eu AINDA não consegui resolver:

1. O monitor externo (que fica à esquerda do Note) está como o desktop principal e o display do notebook ficou como secunário. Eu gostaria de inverter isso....
2. Como meu monitor tem resolução maxima de 1440x900 e o note 1280x800, "sobram" 100 pixels para baixo do notebook.... se eu arrasto o mouse "forçando" para baixo, o X crasha e desloga me jogando pra tela de login.

Tentei inventar um modeline de 1440x800, mas não tive muito sucesso... como o MergedFB detecta as informacoes dos monitores e cria o tamanho máximo da resolução, estou com uma resolução de 2720x900 e não tem cristo que faça não crashar no notebook.

Tenho certeza de que é isso, porque se eu forçar o mouse logo que loga, ele crasha.... se eu ficar trabalhando durante horas sem "empurrar" o mouse pra baixo o micro fica funcionando normalmente.

Alguém tem alguma sugestão?

Você pode ver isso em Sistema->Preferencias->Monitores. Lá você vai ver os dois monitores e clicando e arrastando eles você consegue mudar a disposição deles.

Nao funciona... no monitores aparece apenas 1 monitor com as duas resoluções somadas. Mas pior que o fato do principal estar na esquerda é o fato de o notebook é 1280x800 e o monitor é 1440x900... por ter essa diferença (de 800 pra 900) se eu "forço" o mouse para baixo do display menor o X "crasha".

Alguém tem alguma sugestão?

Faça a configuração para os dois monitores, separadamente, no xorg.conf.

Nenhum funcionou....

O primeiro, ficou espelhado em 1280x800.... o segundo, nem carrega o X. Ele fica piscando e caindo até que eu tive que dar Altgr + Print Screen + E para "haltar"... logar como root e voltar o xorg.conf que eu tinha antes.

Mesmo assim, muito obrigado pelas tentativas...

Como eu mensionei antes, está tudo lindo do jeito que está A NÃO SER pelo fato de que se eu escorregar o mouse para baixo, vazando o display do notebook o X halta e cai na tela de login... perco tudo que eu estava fazendo e é um problemão quando o povo aqui de casa tenta usar o micro.

Por causa desse problema chego a conclusão de que o Linux (em geral) não serve pra usuário comum... se a gente que tem muito mais experiencia sofre pra algumas coisas... como eu posso esperar que minha filha de 6 anos não faça "agada" jogando no site da Barbie???

Mas eu sou brasileiro e nao desisto nunca!!! Vou continuar no Ubuntu.... mas acho que vou ter que comprar um micrinho com windows pra ela....

Qualquer outra sugestão será muito bem vinda.

Com o Ubuntu iniciado no modo gráfico mesmo (o normal...), abra o Terminal e digite os comandos:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
Informe login e senha (acho que é solicitado...)

Depois:

sudo X -configure startx
Se tiver problemas, reinicie

2 - Copie o conteúdo do arquivo xorg.conf.new que foi criado na Home do usuário (pasta pessoal) ou na pasta /root/ (dependendo de como vc o gerou) e cole aqui.

Ruindows e fria acabei de voltar de lá. kkkkk
Problemas só problemas, por enquanto mesmo o linux dando problema na placa de audio e pctv que não sai som.
e bem mais rápido pra desligar que meu Ruindows e olha que ainda paguei por ele, nem foi piratão, temos que ter paciêcia com o software livre, os caras não ganham nada pra fazer eles, tem que ter dedicação pra ficar no linux porque não é fácil, mas é ótimo. []'s

Eu estou exatamente com esse mesmo problema, depois de uma semana tentando botar o monitor externo pra funcionar, fiz a mesma coisa, usando os hints do sisctrl pra botar MergedFB. Tá tudo lindo aqui também exceto por esse problema número 2 (o 1 eu arrastei os painéis segurando alt pro monitor externo e ficou tranquilo). Alguém saberia como resolver esse problema do crash do X quando o mouse entra nessa área "morta"?

Eu terminei dando um jeitinho. Na opção do MergedFB eu botei "Cloned" ao invés de "RightOf", assim as telas ficaram clonadas e eu pude selecionar a resolução 1440x900 no sisctrl. Daí foi só desligar o monitor do notebook e trabalhar no monitor externo.

To com um problema parecido.
Quero conectar uma TV digital fullhd, mas tenho tido alguns problema.
Eu conecto a TV na entrada VGA e ela exibe a tela sem problemas, mas a resolução máxima que o Ubuntu me dá é 1024x768 (4:3).
Eu preciso que ela fique em 1920x1080 que é a resolução fullhd.
Eu fiz alguns procedimentos relatados acima, mas não funcionou.
Será que dá pra fazer isso?
