não aconteceu nada

também usei assim
sudo mkdir /media/sdc
respondeu isso:

sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /media/sdc
mkdir: é impossível criar o diretório `/media/sdc': Arquivo existe

executei todos os comandos com o HD conectado.
não aconteceu nada

caso o problema seja na trilha 0
como resolver.

esta funcionando
mas agora ele não libera o dispositivo para retirar.
e quando desligo o PC e retiro o hd e volto a ligar sem o hd externo ele diz que precisa conectar o hd ou ligar.
eu ligo e depois que o ubuntu esta funcionando eu conecto e esta mensagem aparece.

mas eu já entro no ubuntu como root.
 por que o sistema não quer reconhecer o hd depois que o sistema inicia?

É isso mesmo. Para montar/desmontar a partição só o root.

eu ligo e depois que o ubuntu esta funcionando eu conecto e esta mensagem aparece.

Porque está configurado para montar o disco no boot e como não o encontra dá o erro.

mas eu já entro no ubuntu como root.

Porque, como já disse, o aplicativo foi configurado para montá-lo no boot.

executando sudo ntfs-config parte dele deu erro como pode ser visto nas mensagens anteriores onde relatei o processo que ocorreu no terminal. Será que isso tem problema.
todos os hd's que eu conectar no pc no caso externos, vou ter que proceder desta mesma forma?

desinstalei  o "ferramentas de configuração ntfs"
mas continuo com problemas,
não abre nem a pau os pendrives e hd externos.
e fica pedindo para conectar na hora de iniciar o ubuntu.

O que pode tentar é editar o fstab.

O problema não está no fstab, talvez nas permissões.

mano obrigado por sua ajuda, mas ainda não foi.

instalei um programa chamado storage device manager
consigo que o hd externo abra mas só se conecta-lo antes do sistema iniciar se eu retirar enquanto uso o ubuntu e quiser usa-lo novamente esta mensagem aparece.
