Monitor LCD Widescreen no kubuntu

Olá pessoal,
tenho o kubuntu instalado no meu PC e acabei de comprar um novo monitor 17" lcd 732nw widescreen da samsung, mas não consigo colocar o monitor numa resolução
compatível com meu LCD, a imagem não preenche toda a tela, como faço? já tentei editar o arquivo /etc/X11/xorg.conf colocando outras resoluções como a 1280x800, mas não deu certo, eu reinicio o micro, mas continua na mesma resolução

Qual a versão do Ubuntu?


Ops... kubuntu... foi mal... Eu to precisando usar o kubuntu para poder ajudar mais, vou passar aqui porque praticamente não o uso, mas as informações podem ajudar as pessoas a ajudar você.

utilizo a placa de video onboard da pl mãe asus p5gc-mx, e a versão é: Kubuntu 7.10 _Gutsy Gibbon

1) Poste aqui seu arquivo /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Se não souber como fazer isso, use pelo terminal:

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
(então copie e cole a partir do terminal)


2) Instale o pacote "915resolution":

sudo apt-get install 915resolution
E reinicie o X com Ctrl + Alt + BackSpace (<--) para ver se já foi corrigido o problema.


3) Se ainda não corrigiu, tente reconfigurar o X:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
E mais uma vez reinicie o X com Ctrl + Alt + BackSpace (<--) para ver se funcionou.


4) Se ainda não funcionou, poste aqui o novo /etc/X11/xorg.conf.


Se alguém mais quiser ajudar, a placa gráfica dele é Intel (IGMA 950).

já havia instalado o 915resolution
lá vei o meu etc/X11/xorg.conf:

e quando faço: Ctrl + Alt + BackSpace  nada acontece

Experimenta editar o arquivo /etc/default/915resolution e fazer as alterações conforme exemplo abaixo:

na pasta etc/default/   nao tem nenhum arquivo 915resolution, e os arquivos 915resolution que encontrei em outras pastas sao todos binarios
