ixi, tenho esssa placa a uns 2 anos, e nunca vi esse detalhe pois no  windows ela era reconhecida como Nvidia fx5200. Agora preciso saber como instalar esses drivers para essa placa para poder ativar os efeitos 3D. O driver que baixei está no formato .tar e não sei instala-lo. Alguem ai ja instalou ou saberia me explicar ?

3.Installation

* 3.1. Before Installation

**

Before installing XGI driver package, there are something to be noticed.



    a. The user must login as root.

    b. Please make sure to switch in console mode.

       The user can chech if the run-level is 3 (id:3:initdefault:) in the file /etc/inittab.

       If not, please modify it to 3 and restart the computer.

* 3.2. Install XGI Volari driver package

**       

a. Uncompress the package xgipkg_Xorg_K26_i386.tgz if the kernel is Xorg:

       

        $ tar -zxvf xgipkg_Xorg_K26_i386.tgz



b. Execute the install script:

   

    $ sh install.sh



**

* 3.3. Installation action

**   

    a. Compile and load XGI FB module.

    b. Compile and load XGI DRM module

c. Copy xgiv_drv.o to ${X11R6}/lib/modules/drivers for driver of XFree86

d. (Before kernel version 2.6)Add the command to load agpgart, module, XGI FB module, and XGI drm module in the /etc/rc.d/rc.local on boot.

   (After kernel version 2.6)Add the command to load XGI FB module and XGI drm module in the /etc/rc.d/rc.local on boot.

4.Start Running

After config XF86Config and use "insmod" to load driver modules

(as decribe in sec. 4)



start or restart X-window to take effect.

(driver modules must be loaded before X-Window Starts)



use 'lsmod' to make sure that xgi, xgifb, and agpgart are loaded and used.



**for Mandrake 9.2

Mandrake 9.2 set VGA mode at boot time. you must select "linux-nonfb"

in boot loader, or you will encounter problems when run 3D app.

or you can modify lilo.conf to disable VGA setting.

 5. Uninstall

===========================================

* 5.1. Before Installation

**

Before uninstalling XGI driver package, there are something to be noticed.



    a. The user must login as root.

    a. logout from X-Window

    b. go to the folder of the driver package source which has been uncompressed.

    c. Execute uninstall command



        $ sh install.sh uninstall

   

    d. Restart the computer to take effect



        $ reboot

* 5.3 Uninstallation action

*

Uninstall will remove and restore all the modules & files we installed

you still have to modify XF86Config manully.



a. Remove xgiv_drv.o from ${X11R6}/lib/modules/drivers for driver of XFree86/Xorg

b. Remove XGIfb.ko for Xorg and XGIfb.o for XFree86 under /lib/modules/$KERNEL_VER/kernel/drivers/video

c. Remove xgi.ko for Xorg and xgi.o for XFree86under /lib/modules/$KERNEL_VER/kernel/drivers/char/drm

d. Recover /etc/rc.d/rc.local to recover the original status.

f. Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config(or xorgconf for Xorg) to use vesa driver, not xgi in the Device section.

Oi pessoal!

To com um problema parecido com o do Kurosak.

To rodando o Ubuntu 8.04 e tenho nesse uma FX 5200 e não consigo instalar o drive. A resolução máxima do drive genérico é 800x600 e não permite ativar os efeitos visuais.
A minha placa é realmente uma fx5200, está fucionando perfeitamente no windows xp (instalei com dual boot no pc). Já fiz tudo o que vocês sugeriram ao Kurosak mas não func ionou ainda.

O que acontece quando tento instalar:
 - O instalador diz que eu tenho que ter uma nova compilação do kernel.

E agora? o que eu faço? ???

Caro korosaki
uso a mesma placa e tenho o mesmo problema, contudo, consegui contorná-lo usando o kernel genérico 2.6.24-19-generic.
O drive foi reconhecido e tudo funcionou corretamente.
Não sei se vc já tentou essa dica, de qualquer forma, boa sorte.
