resolução/frequência monitor com d.NVIDIA [RESOLVIDO]

Olá a Todos!

Instalei o Ubuntu 7.04, e tive o mesmo problema que no 6.10: a única opção de resolução/frequência era 800x600_60, alterando o xorg.conf, com as frequências corretas do meu monitor, conseguia tranquilamente alterar para 1024x768_75, mas quando instalava o driver da nvidia, não tinha santo que alterasse a resolução/frequência, ela cravava em 800x600_56.......affffff!!!!! isso me fez desistir do Ubuntu.

Com a nova versão, acreditando que não teria esse problema....... pimba! mesma coisa!!!!!
Me registrei aqui no fórum, talvez alguém possa me ajudar, pois desta vez não quero desistir.

Meu hardware:
P4 2,66 Ghz
Mobo Intel D865GSA
1024 MB RAM
VGA FX 5500 256MB 128bits
Monitor Philips 107St 17"

resumindo, quando instalo os driver da NVIDIA não consigo alterar a resolução 800x600_56!

tentei cara, tentei sim..........
o problema nos settings é na opção Resolução: AUTO ou OFF.
Tá setado em AUTO, o OFF para por manualmente está desabilitada  !!!

Pessoal, tentei reconfigurar o xorg.conf na unha, reiniciei o X (Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace),

acrescentei a linha Option         "UseEDID" "False" na Section "Device"
