Impressora matricial não é mais detectada por cabo USB

Olá pessoal, gostaria de uma ajuda.

Comprei 2 pc com o Ubuntu versão 9.04 com interface gráfica KDE. Instalei em uma delas uma impressora matricial Epson Lx-300 usando um cabo adaptador paralelo-usb, pois o pc não possui entrada para cabo paralelo. Ótimo, o pc detectou o cabo usb e fiz as configurações dela usando o driver proprinter da IBM. Ela imprimia tudo direitinho.
Contudo, inventei de atualizar esse pc para o kubuntu 10.04. Depois da atualização percebi que perdi todas as configurações da impressora. Ao tentar refazer todo o procedimento anterior para configurá-la novamente o sistema não detectava mais o cabo usb.
Todos os dispositivos usb são detectados assim que conectados, exceto a impressora. Conectei ela no outro pc com o Ubuntu 9.04 e o dispositivo foi detectado imediatamente para instalação.
Alguém pode me orientar em como resolver esse problema do pc que foi atualizado?

Tenho certeza que esse monte de letras refere-se a impressora porque quando eu a desconecto do pc essas informações desaparecem.

Olá amigo, tive casos parecidos com o seu aqui na empresa. Resolvi da seguinte forma.

Removi o serviço cups. Abra o terminal e digite : sudo apt-get remove cups

Atualizei o apt-get. No terminal digite: sudo apt-get update

Reinstalei o Cups. No terminal digite: sudo apt-get install cups

Reiniciei o PC, reinstalei a impressora usando o Driver IBM dot Generic Printer e tudo funcionou perfeitamente, espero que estas informações ajudem vc a solucionar o seu problema. Não se esqueça que para os procedimentos citados acima a sua máquina tem que estar conectada a internet. Abraços....
