instalacao de drivers proprietarios

instalei o ubuntu, mas quando tento atualizar a placa de video utilizando jockey, depois de reiniciar nao aparece nada e fica todo desconfigurado. se tiver algum icone no desktop, aparece so o icone, e nem o terminal funciona direito.
alguem sabe como faco para instalar drivers proprietarios (video, som e etc), sem dar problema?
meu pc eh samsung, tem todos os drivers no site do fabricante, mas sao todos para windows!

Qual a versão Ubuntu voce ta tentando instalar? abra o terminal  digite o comando lspci e poste o resultado para poder ajudar

Clique na engrenagem no canto superior direito do monitor. Depois segue o caminho:

Configurações do sistema --> Drivers Adicionais

Selecione os drivers de seu interesse e manda instalar. Depois basta reiniciar o sistema e estará tudo pronto.
