Bom dia, bom eu comprei um case da C3Tech usb 3.0 mas quando eu conecto o mesmo no ubuntu 16.04 LTS não acontece nada, ele também não aparece no gparted nem no fdisk -l.
Usando o comando lsusb tenho essa resposta

Acredito que Sigma Micro seja o HD, ele foi formatado como ntfs já que só consegui usa-lo no windows

Certifique-se que o sistema se encontra atualizado:
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
Depois instale esses pacotes:
sudo apt install ntfs-3g
sudo apt install exfat-utils
sudo apt install exfat-fuse
Vai instalando um por vez e testando, instala, testa, instala, testa.
Use o parted em linha de comando para testar e ver se aparece o hd:
sudo parted -l
(sinal de hífen mais letra ele no final do comando acima)

Se feitas tais instalações ainda nem sinal de vida do disco, então forneça também alguma informação adicional sobre o seu sistema.
Instale o pacote inxi
sudo apt install inxi
depois faça o comando, com o mouse copie a saída e cole o resultado aqui no tópico:
inxi -FxZ

Em seguida execute também esse comando e traga os resultados.
Antes de executar o comando, desplugue o HD usb, aguarde uns segundos, plugue novamente, aguarde uns 30 segundos e então execute o comando.

Pelo que se vê esse sistema possui 3 discos
sda - 240GB - KINGSTON SUV400S
sdb - 500GB - WESTERN DIGITAL - WDC WD5000AAKX-0
sdc - 320GB - SEAGATE - ST320LM001 HN-M3
Todo o particionamento de todos os hdd são GPT e o Linux está instalado em sdc4
Não há nenhum sinal do disco externo, nenhuma identificação por mínima que seja, e se instalou os pacotes mencionados (post #1) e fez corretamente o uso do comando tail (post #3), ao plugar alguma coisa deveria aparecer, porém nada acontece, nenhum sinal.
No post inicial diz que consegue usar no Windows, o que em princípio afasta a necessidade de registrá-lo no setup UEFI da máquina, pois já deve estar lá devidamente identificado e autorizado e igualmente afasta a possibilidade de que esteja "morto".
1) Verifique no gerenciador de dispositivos do Windows ou em qualquer outro software de identificação de hardware daquele sistema operacional, como o case c3Tech e o hhd embarcado são lá identificados para ver se conseguimos alguma pista;
2) Se possível forneça o modelo exato desse case C3Tech e melhor ainda se conseguir indicar um link do produto;
3) Essa motherboard possui várias portas USB, incluindo 4 portas USB 3.0

No site do fabricante a especificação diz assim:

Experimente alternar entre portas USB 2.0 e 3.0 para ver se em alguma delas consegue identificação.
4) Havia um problema anterior com essa motherboard Gigabyte 970A-DS3P na revisão 1 do hardware, mas aparentemente o firmware dessa sua é mais recente e está atualizado.
De qualquer forma, experimente usar o seguinte parâmetro na linha de boot lá no menu do grub na tela inicial do sistema.
iommu=soft
A colocação desse parâmetro na cmdline de boot se perde ao reiniciar o sistema, porém caso apresente resultado depois se altera no arquivo grub tornando-a definitiva, o que é simples de ser feito.
5) Verifique também se há esse parâmetro IOMMU no setup da máquina e, se o caso, habilitar;
6) Grave um live-iso (pendrive ou cdrom) com o Ubuntu arquitetura 32-bit e suba o sistema por ele e verifique se o disco externo é identificado.
Lembre-se que o pendrive para o Ubuntu 16.04 precisa ser de pelo menos 8GB.

fiquei sem computador e não pude responder, fiz todos esses testes e nenhum deles funcionou, foi então que li meu post do lsusb e percebi que as portas usb 3.0 não apareceram no mesmo e então tentei o óbvio pluguei o hd na porta 2.0 e passou a reconhecer. agora estou procurando aqui no fórum o por que as portas não funcionam.

Não entendi muio bem quando você diz que "fiz todos esses testes e nenhum deles funcionou,", e depois diz que plugou na porta usb 2.0 e aí funcionou.
Oras, mas no post #5, item 3, última linha desse item, estava literalmente dito:
"Experimente alternar entre portas USB 2.0 e 3.0 para ver se em alguma delas consegue identificação."
Fiquei sem compreender a lógica das afirmações.
Ficou parecendo, salvo engano, que na verdade todos os testes propostos não haviam sido realmente feitos.
Porque se realmente tivessem sido feitos em um dado momento se teria plugado na porta usb 2.0 e teria funcionado.
