Não sei se fiz a pergunta corretamente, mas adquiri um computador positivo intel 3D, o qual não diz em seu manual a ficha técnica do notebook P/N:1108870379R-C14V1-0001PST, a pergunta que faço é existe uma maneira de indentificar o hardware via terminal no linux? tipo catalogar para saber os dados da máquina, já que pretendo instalar o ubuntu nela, que veio com um sistema operacional mandriva, que sinceramente não gosto muito. Esse número que escrevi é o que está colado na parte de cima da tela, não sei se ajudaria muito,pois já vi diversos tópicos sobre problemas ao instalar o ubuntu em positivo com placas do tipo Sys se não me engano, não sei se possuo essa placa, ai dessa maneira como primeiro passo eu resolvi criar o tópico para que com a colaboração e conhecimento de todos me ajudem nas duas etapas a serem vencidas, primeiro ponto indentificar o hardware e segundo instalar o ubuntu. Eu também criei o tópico pois tenho live-cds da canonical até a edição 9.04, sei que estou atrasado, mas o real ponto é quando meu hardware for indentificado, seria saber se deveria usar o sistema de 32 ou 64 bits para melhor desempenho da máquina, bem espero que não se sintam ofendidos por eu ser leigo ao ponto de questionar sobre um problema e acabar atacando outro, bom é isso pessoal.

opa valeu kra, agora não sei pq, mas só funcionou o lpsci o segundo lsusb deu bash, comando não encontrado, pq aconteceu isso?

Nem toda distro Linux tem os mesmos comandos, como o amigo disse, esse comando não deve funcionar no Mandriva.
Nem vou recomendar o comando "sudo lshw" porque só funciona nas distros ".deb", testei no OpenSuse, Fedora, CentOS e não reconheceu o comando.

bom e então como faço para saber já que o comando não funciona no mandriva? sim eu tentei rodar o live-CD para usar a distribuição sem instalar e deu erro, ao passar da janela de inicialização onde escolhemos o idioma, não entendi muito bem, pois já instalei o ubuntu via mídia em meu pc e funcionou blz, mas no notebook mandriva da positivo tenho essas dúvidas com relação ao hardware, eu quero usar o ubuntu!! alguém aqui já passou por um problema semelhante ao meu?

Não reconheceu o comando pois não deve ter o pacote instalado.
Muitos comandos em shell são scripts que devem ser instalados, como por exemplo o list hardware (lshw)
Ele pode ser instaladado em qualquer linux do universo, e se for uma distro rpm basta um #rpmi lshw

Nem lembrava mais do update.
Eu usei algum tempo o apt-rpm que facilitava a vida, mas era no Conectiva Linux 4, lá nos idos de 1999
Ele era mantido pelo alfredo kojima, do window maker.
Depois nunca mais usei derivados do red hat e nem sei como anda o apt-rpm...

Pelo que eu saiba, aqui é um fórum oficial do Ubuntu.
Se veio instalado o Mandriva, é altamente recomendável você solicitar suporte no fórum oficial da distro (http://www.mandrivabrasil.org/site/forum/).
Quanto ao Ubuntu, faça download dele, instale em um Pen Drive e execute sem realizar nenhuma mudança no seu computador.
Rode os comandos que recomendei no meu post anterior, e cole aqui os resultados.

Se quer informações detalhadas sobre configurações de seu hardware, instale o lshw em modo gráfico:
sudo apt-get install lshw lshw-gtk
Depois é só chamar pelo Terminal: sudo lshw-gtk ou procurar nos Aplicativos como: Hardware Lister
