Falha na compilação do Bullet-2.73

Consegui gerar o arquivo ./configure usando o autogen.sh
Depois de algumas falhas por falta do automake, autoconf (que instalei direto do repositório). Durante a execução do configure, exibiu a seguinte mensagem de erro:

estou tentando instalar o Bullet para poder compilar o VDrift, um simulador de corrida.

Rodo o Ubuntu 10.04 via Wubi
processador Intel Atom CPU N270
os outros detalhes não tenho como ver no momento, por falta de tempo, mas colocarei se for preciso
