Problema com resolução de tela Ubuntu 8.10

Olá,
Já testei tudo em um montão de tópicos sobre problemas com resolução de tela, mas até agora nada...
O problema, como já é rotina por aqui, é que a resolução da minha tela não passa dos 800 x 600.
Segue meu xorg:

Em Section "Screen"

adicione as linhas:

        SubSection "Display"
                Depth     24
                Modes    "1280x1024" "1024x768"
        EndSubSection


Em Modes adicione as resoluções que você quiser.

Blz cara,
Dessa vez o xorg salvou as informações (pq todas as vezes que eu alterei, encerrava a sessão mas dava erro, voltava pros 800 x 600 aew eu ia conferir no xorg, constatava que tinha voltado pro defalt)...
Entretanto a opção de resolução de 1280 x 1024 e 1024 x 786 não aparecem lá nas configurações de resolução de monitor

Aqui comigo funcionou, tenta aí.

Configuração do xorg.conf, com as alterações em vermelho:
Altera, salva e reinicia o computador.

Meu note é CCE J48A, com placa Sis Mirage 3 Graphics.

Fiz todas as tentativas que pude com as dicas dos foruns e somente essa funcionou.

Vale a pena tentar como eu fiz, até que encontrei.
