Erro durante o boot

Ola  :( eu tenho o windows xp instalado no C: 12.7GB, instalei o ubuntunu 6.06 desktop em uma particão ext3  6,1 GB e 200MB swap..

Intalei o ubuntunu deu tudo certo dai pediu para reiniciar dai deu o seguinte erro:

Tentei acessar o hd pelo live cd para mexer nas configuracoes do grub mas fala que a partição não pode ser montada ou algo assim.

Gostaria de saber o que eu posso fazer.. estou conectado pelo livecd.. E tambem gostaria de saber se eu não conseguir configurar o grub para dar o boot eu vou ter que dar um fixboot ou fixmbr e estou com medo de perder os dados que estao no windows corro este risco ao dar fixmbr ??

Consegui acessar os arquivos da partição ext3 pelo live cd do kurumin e acessar a configuração do grub.

Como ninguem me espondeu  ??? eu pegei e instalei o krurmin 4 configurei o lilo e deu certo  ;D

Mas eu ainda queria instalar o ubuntu :(.
